the BRITTANY WETLANDS project

KEELING is a partner of The Brittany Wetlands Project alongside EcoTree. In Langoëlan, in the heart of Brittany, the project brings new life to a fragile landscape of woodland, wet meadows and ponds.

Restoring these habitats means making room for amphibians, dragonflies and rare plants, reconnecting natural environments and supporting the ecological quality of water. A living landscape, cared for over time.

why the BRITTANY WETLANDS?
Space for life.

In the heart of Brittany, Langoëlan forest covers 15.95 hectares, including five hectares of ecologically important wetlands. Woodland, wet meadows and semi-open habitats form a mosaic that supports a rich and fragile biodiversity.

The site is identified in EcoTree’s project brief as part of the Natura 2000 network and classified as ZNIEFF I & II. The restoration focuses on reopening wetland habitats, improving their ecological function and encouraging species adapted to humid environments.

KEELING is a partner of this ecosystem restoration project alongside EcoTree, which manages the forest and coordinates its ecological restoration.

Project benefits.

The project aims to restore a rare wetland complex, create habitats for more than 20 target species, including protected species, and improve the ecological quality of water. Reconnecting habitats also strengthens the green and blue corridors of the Scorff watershed.

Making room for life.

Selective cutting of willow and birch reopens natural environments. Removing cut vegetation helps limit nutrient enrichment, while wildlife refuges provide shelter. The aim is to recover wet meadows, tall herbaceous vegetation and heathland.

Four forest ponds, shaped to suit amphibians and dragonflies, strengthen breeding habitats and ecological continuity. Careful excavation preserves clay layers. Targeted removal of surface vegetation encourages rare wetland plants to return.

Observe. Restore. Follow through.

Restoration is paired with scientific follow-up. Surveys before and after the works focus on amphibians, reptiles, dragonflies, bats and notable plant species, helping track how the habitats respond.

The programme described by EcoTree includes more than 550 hours of work and biodiversity monitoring. Its indicative schedule places habitat works in 2024–2025 and inventories and monitoring in 2025–2027. Timing may evolve with field conditions and project funding.
